Get a clear answer to the status check

RCC displays the recall status held in its existing vehicle record where available. An older record may omit later campaigns or completed repairs; confirm the current position with the manufacturer.

Unknown or missing information is never presented as a successful clear check. The source and checked date sit beside the status.

Know what to do when a recall is recorded

Use the official manufacturer recall service or contact its authorised dealer with the vehicle details. They can confirm the campaign affecting the individual vehicle and the repair arrangements.

Follow any manufacturer instructions about using the car. GOV.UK's recall service also explains how to check a vehicle, part or accessory and what to do next.

Understand public recall information

Where the saved provider record includes campaign descriptions, those details appear separately from the recorded status. Confirm which campaign applies to the individual vehicle through the manufacturer.

A campaign may concern a particular production range, component or set of VINs. A matching model name alone does not establish that this car is affected or that a repair is outstanding.

Keep MOT and recall records separate

Use the separate MOT check to review test and mileage records. A recall status and an MOT result answer different questions, so an MOT pass does not establish that recall work was completed.

Before buying, review the wider vehicle history too. The free recall result does not include an outstanding finance or full insurance-history check.

How it works

Frequently asked questions

Can I check car recalls by registration?

Enter a registration to identify the vehicle and review recall information already held by RCC. Coverage and freshness vary; use the manufacturer to confirm the current status.

Is the RCC recall checker free?

Reviewing the available saved recall information is free. There is no payment required for that result.

Is this the GOV.UK or DVLA recall checker?

This is Rapid Car Check's independent service displaying saved provider information, with the source labelled where supplied. Use the official recall service or manufacturer for current confirmation.

What does an outstanding recall mean?

It means the returned vehicle data records an outstanding safety recall. Contact the manufacturer or an authorised dealer to confirm the specific campaign and required action.

Why does the result say unknown or unavailable?

The data may not provide an individual status for the vehicle or the lookup may be unavailable. The result is unconfirmed. Check with the manufacturer for confirmation.

Will I see the exact recall repair needed?

The saved record may contain campaign descriptions or only a status. The manufacturer can confirm the campaign and repair needed for the individual vehicle.

Does a recall for my model mean my car is affected?

Campaigns can be limited to specific build periods, components or VINs. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the individual vehicle instead of relying on the model name alone.

Does an MOT pass prove that a recall was repaired?

An MOT result is a separate test record. Use the manufacturer's confirmation to establish whether the recall work was completed.

Are safety recall repairs free?

GOV.UK says the manufacturer should provide the safety recall fix without charging. Confirm the campaign and arrangements with the manufacturer or authorised dealer.

Is the recall result enough before buying a car?

It answers the recall-status question. Check the vehicle's identity, paperwork, condition and relevant finance, theft and insurance records as part of the wider buying decision.
