What happens if you don’t renew tax and MOT
Failure to renew your vehicles tax can result in an £80 fine and payment of any back taxes that are owed.
On the MOT side of things if you get caught driving a vehicle without MOT you could face a £1000 fine or even worse if the vehicle is classed as dangerous you could face a £2500 fine and 3 penalty points on your license.

How to renew your vehicles tax
You should get a V11 reminder about 3 weeks in advance, this reminder has a reference number which you can use to renew your vehicles tax.
Here’s an example of a V11 reminder (there’s a circle around the reference number you need to renew your road tax).
If you don’t have this letter/reference number don’t worry, there are also other options available on the gov.uk website such as V5C registration certificate (logbook), Last chance letter and V5C/2 new keeper supplement (green slip) which allow you to renew your vehicles tax.

For most people the easiest way to renew road tax is to do it online, you can pay via credit card or debit card and the process is simple.
